The best laid plans of mice and men
In April 2018 Richard Cunningham and Nigel Gambier met for one of their occasional catch up lunch’s at Boisdale’s in Begravia. As usually fine wine was consumed, far too much meat was eaten and the chat went on deep into the afternoon. Only on this occasion a plot was hatched which unusually survived more sober consideration the following day. That plan was to drive our two 1934 Lagonda M45’s around the world. We have both taken our cars to many continents and countries but we both thought, whilst we are still able, lets complete the ultimate road trip in our iconic, British built, classic cars.
If this was to be manageable and enjoyable we didn’t want more than 4 cars and immediately called our old rally friend Chris Evan’s who, without a moments hesitation, signed up for the venture with his 1928 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost. Other’s were more reticent but we were not in the least downhearted, if it was to be three cars then so be it. Better to have a close knit team that a flaky one and experience had taught us that such a team would be able to deal with the inevitable adversity which would undoubtedly strike sooner than we thought.
