Momentum at last!
It seems as if the involvement of senior Maersk management is producing results. The deep complexity of Maersk’s shipping systems and Argentina’s “Malvinas” (yes seriously!) customs system remain a complete mystery but we seem to be progressing. With all the required paperwork entered into the Malvinas system we wait on customs to press the necessary button and release the containers to Maersk. When the status goes green Maersk can then release to containers for final customs check and then release from the port. We have a slot booked for Friday morning for customs and Friday evening for release…and then Carlos our Buenos Aires agent informs us that due to stress he has had an ‘incident’ regarding his heart which has put him into hospital. Can you believe it! We have remained so patient and so calm throughout this ordeal but really, are all the gods aligned against us? Blow after blow rain in, but we parry and counter jab, remaining doggedly in the game. Soon it will be time for the final hay maker!

"After two weeks of ‘tearing our hair out’ we allowed ourselves tantalising thoughts of a Saturday departure from BA and even posted as such on Instagram. What could possibly go wrong, says Ham!! An hour after the post we received a message to say a key actor in the customs clearance process was experiencing too much stress and needed to visit his doctor. You couldn’t make it up!"
To compensate for such unfortunate news we take our new frat members off to have the best steak in Buenos Aires at Don Julio and what a steak it proved to be! The wine bill easily exceeded the food bill, the way it should be when arriving in Buenos Aires. An evening of live music bars maintained morale and Friday morning brings not entirely clear but hopefully positive news. It “seems” as if the Malvenas is giving Maersk the customs green light and now it is down to everyone to expedite final customs and release of the cars.
